GWC Gandhi Nagar lifts Volleyball title; GDC Kishtwar, GDC Kathua enter next stage in Cricket

JAMMU, Oct 7: Inter-Collegiate Championships in the disciplines of Volleyball and Cricket, being organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, were played here today.
In Inter-Collegiate Championship for women, defending champion GCW Gandhi Nagar crushed GCW Parade by straight 3-0 sets with the score of 25-13, 25-21 and lifted the title trophy.
Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu was the chief guest, who presented the title trophy to winning team.
Among others present were Sumnesh Sharma, Romesh Sharma, Dr Brij Baloria, Ramesh Magotra, Ravish Vaid, Gagan Kumar and Vikas Karlopia.
The final match was officiated by Mulkh Raj, Roshan Lal Sharma, Amit Sharma, Manmohan Sharma and Abneet Sharma.
Meanwhile, in Inter-Collegiate Cricket Championship for men, GDC Kishtwar and GDC Kathua smashed rivals and entered into the next stage.
In the first match played between GDC Thanna Mandi and GDC Kishtwar, the latter registered win by 7 wickets.
Batting first, GDC Thanna Mandi made 86 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Amir made 13 runs, while Safer and Srikesh scored 10 runs each.
From GDC Kishtwar side, Nitin, Aaqib and Burhan scalped 2 wickets each, while Hinan and Daud took one wicket apiece.
In reply, GDC Kishtwar chased the target in 13.4 overs by losing 3 wickets. Hinan played a splendid inning of 60 runs, while Burhan scored 17 runs.
From GDC Thanna Mandi side, Shahid and Awais scalped one wicket each.
In the second match, GDC Kathua registered win over GDC Poonch by 39 runs.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, GDC Kathua made set a target of 152 runs by losing 9 wickets in 20 overs. Munish was the top scorer with 58 runs, while Kaushal and Shivam scored 27 and 13 runs each.
From GDC Poonch side, Ramiz was the wrecker-in-chief, who scalped 34 wickets, while Amandeep and Pawandeep took 2 wickets each and Jahanzab clinched one wicket.
In the second inning, GDC Poonch failed to chase the target and bundled out at 113 runs by losing all wickets in 19 overs. Rishav was the highest scorer with 36 runs, while Gurjeet Singh, Jahanzab and Sohail chipped in 26, 13 and 12 runs respectively.
From GDC Kathua side, Anmol was pick of the bowler, who scalped 5 wickets, while Rajan Kumar took 2 wickets. Anuj and Rajan Singh clinched one wicket each.
The matches were officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Vijay Dogra, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Sadiq Hussain, Vijay Kumar and Vinod.
